The Role of the Governing Body

Our school has a strong Governing Body, which sets the strategic framework for the school in partnership with the Head Teacher.  This includes agreeing the overall development objectives for the school and monitoring progress towards them.  Our Governing Body meets regularly as a full group and also in committees. Our governors represent the Church, parents and staff at the school as well as the wider community.  All governors are volunteers with some appointments being made by the Church and the Local Authority, for terms of four years.

The role of the Governing Body is to work collectively in partnership with the school through regular meetings, providing support and challenge, and acting as a 'critical friend'.  The Governing Body has a good working knowledge of the strategic direction of the school and works with other agencies to support school improvement for the benefit of the children. Day to day management decisions are taken by the Head Teacher and the school staff, however, the Governing Body is responsible for appointing staff and making policy decisions.

Full details of the Scheme of Delegation of responsibilities are detailed below.  For details of the terms of reference of committees, who our governors are and their attendance to meetings please see the governor page 'Who we are.'
