A day in the life of Beech Class

 

• Doors open at 8.45am for children to settle and take part in our early bird activities. Children self-register and choose their     lunch option before our learning begins at 9am

• 9-9.30 Phonics – whole class teaching using our phonics scheme “Success for all Phonics” Children recap on previous           learning, learn new sounds and words, build and read words together and practise writing these sounds and words

• 9.30-9.45 Class input – this will be either a literacy, topic or maths input – a chance to talk together and learn new skills

• 9.45- 11.15 Busy learning/snack – an opportunity for children to practise and develop skills and knowledge through a range     of opportunities within the provision both inside and outdoors. Children plan and choose their learning, take a break for a   self-service snack when they are ready, and are further challenged in their learning through a series of “mini me” tasks which they need to complete throughout the week, and teacher guided activities

• 11.15 – tidy up time – children are taught from the very start of the year how to be responsible for our learning environment   and how to prepare it for the next session • 11.30 - 11.50 – story time/topic input

• 11.50 - 12.50 –lunch - Children eat in our main hall together and enjoy meeting up with friends outside in our playground

• 12.50 – afternoon learning time begins

• 1.00 - Guided Reading - Using the “Success for all” scheme we learn to read as class, with a partner and independently,   using books matched to the sounds we have learned in our phonics lessons.

• 1.20-1.35 – Class input (as a.m.)

• 1.35-2.45 –Busy learning and snack (as a.m.)

• 2.45 – tidy up time, prepare to go home

• 3.00-3.15 – storytime, singing, class worship

• 3.15 – end of the day

We have collective worship with the rest of the school twice weekly and teach a discrete RE lesson once a week. Our PE coach, employed by Premier Sports, teaches the children a range of PE skills twice a week.
